Coulee Christian plans carnival

Area families with cabin fever might want to mark Saturday on their calendars. That’s the date of Coulee Christian School’s annual Midwinter Senior Carnival.

“We’ll be set up for all kinds of games and contests for kids and their families,” said Pastor Mark Clements of Living Word Christian Church.

As one of the organizers of the event to fund the senior class mission trip over spring break — they’ll be going to Los Angeles this year — Clements helped plan a whole slew of activities to beat the winter blahs.

Among them are archery contests, paintball, a BB gun shoot, putting contest, basketball shooting contests, putting games, inflatable play stations and “fishing” contests with prizes for youngsters. There also will be minnow races and younger kids can cast a fishing line over a wall and “hook” some candy or prizes

“There’s even a deer head with antlers where you can toss rings to try and win prizes,” said science teacher Brian Roraff, who has been working with Clements on the schedule of events. “Best Buy is coming in with Wii games, too.”

Admission is free, but since the event is a fundraiser, some of the games will require tickets to play. “We usually raise between $5,000 and $10,000 — that doesn’t fund the entire mission trip, but it goes a long way to help,” Clements said.

“Tickets will be $1 and, although some games will be free, others might cost one, two or three tickets,” Roraff said. “We’ll also have concessions and a silent auction, plus there will be a pork roast going on the entire day.”

A silent auction will be held throughout the day, and there are plenty of nice prizes, Roraff said.

“We’re hoping people will come and eat and hang out,” Roraff said. “It should be a lot of fun and we’re hoping to see a lot of families.”
