For the week of July 11-18, the West Salem Police Department wrote nine traffic citations, wrote one municipal citation, issued four warnings, responded to five accidents and wrote three parking tickets. The following is a selection of incidents.
Saturday, July 12
12:30 p.m. — A 13-year-old West Salem boy was cited for failure to obey traffic regulations on a bicycle after he failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a vehicle. The accident occurred at the intersection of Harmony and Hamilton streets and the boy was traveling northbound on Harmony Street. The boy stated his bike’s brakes didn’t work and he was unable to stop and collided with a 2000 Jeep driven by a 36-year-old West Salem woman.
2:03 p.m. — A 59-year-old Houston, Minn., man was cited for failure to stop at a stop sign.
Monday, July 14
8:14 a.m. — A 46-year-old West Salem man reported a window in his John Deere tractor was broken while it was parked on Brickl Road.
Tuesday, July 15
7:57 a.m. — A 75-year-old West Salem man reported damage to a window screen at his residence; someone apparently had thrown apples at the house and caused a hole in the screen.
