Joey Jandt of the West Salem FFA chapter received the Wisconsin state FFA degree at the 79th annual State FFA Convention at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on June 11.

The Wisconsin FFA Association conferred the state FFA degree to 472 members. The degree is the highest degree a state association can bestow upon its members.

To be considered for this honor, FFA members must meet the following minimum qualifications: have productively earned and invested $1,000 or worked 1,500 hours; been an FFA member for at least two years and had 360 hours of agricultural classroom instruction; given two speeches, each a minimum of five minutes in length; been involved in at least five FFA activities above the local level; and participated in five cooperative activities.

Jandt and Alan Nuttleman represented the West Salem FFA chapter at the state convention.

The convention highlights a year of service and success for students in Wisconsin agricultural education and FFA, as well as celebrates local chapter and individual achievements. The convention highlights everything from agriscience to entrepreneurship to production agriculture, as well as all the leadership development opportunities FFA offers its members.

Hundreds of sponsors, through the Wisconsin FFA Foundation recognize FFA members with the many awards they sponsor. Jandt and Nuttelman listened to motivational speaker Rhett Laubach, inspirational speaker Ed Gerety and National FFA vice president from Colorado Morgan Parker. They also attended workshops, tours and viewed displays of outstanding achievers in the FFA.
