Three West Salem residents finished in the top four in their age divisions at the July 5 annual Chileda Classic in La Crosse.
Kevin Schaller was third among the 18 men ages 40-44 in the 10-kilometer race in 40:05.3. He also was in the top 20 percent of all male 10-kilometers at 28th among 163 finishers.
Rich Wolfe was third among the 26 men ages 50-54 in the five-kilometer race in 22:34.2. Wolfe also was in the top third, taking 107th among the 357 men’s five-kilometer runners.
Jared Haldeman was fourth among the 57 males ages 15-19 in the five-kilometer race in 17:19.2. Haldeman also was eighth among the 357 total men’s five-kilometer runners.
Two more West Salem residents took fifth in their respective age divisions. Pastor Kevin Lisk, the cross country coach at Luther High School — whose 9-year older daughter Bethany resides at Chileda and whose program conducts the annual Chileda Cross Country Classic at Drugan’s Castle Mound Country Club in Holmen — was fifth among 41 men ages 45-49 in 21:35.7. He also 79th among all men’s five-kilometer runners.
Jenny Wolfe was fifth among 40 women’s five-kilometer finishers ages 50-54 in 25:48.1. She also was in the top 20 percent of the 416 5-kilometer runners, 71st, and was in the top 40 percent of all five-kilometer finishers, male or female, taking 247th.
Two more West Salem residents took sixth in their age divisions. Lucas Wolfe was sixth among the males ages 15-19 in the five-kilometer race in 17:48.4. He also was 15th among all male runners.
Dave Fitzpatrick was sixth among the 29 men ages 35-39 in the five-kilometer race in 21:46.1. He also was in the top quarter of all men’s five-kilometer runners.
West Salem’s Jessica Mlsna was eighth among the 47 women’s five-kilometer runners ages 30-34 in 26:43.2. She also was in the top quarter of all women’s five-kilometer runners and in the top 40 percent of all five-kilometer finishers, male or female.
West Salem’s Hannah Thorn, 11, was ninth among the 74 girls runners ages 14 or younger in the five-kilometer race in 23:50.1. She also was in the top 10 percent of all the women’s five-kilometer runners, regardless of age, and in the top quarter of all five-kilometer runners regardless of gender.
One other West Salem residents finished in the top 10 in their five-kilometer age divisions. John Lisk, 12, was 10th among the 56 boys ages 14 or younger in the five-kilometer race in 21:29.4 He also was in the top 25 percent all of male finishers (77th) and in the top 15 percent of all finishers, including all adults.
