The top prosecutor in La Crosse and surrounding counties will run uncontested for re-election in this fall’s election, barring any write-in candidates.
The area district attorneys all met the 5 p.m. Tuesday filing deadline and no challengers surfaced.
La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke, a Democrat, is running for his first full term. He was appointed to the position last year by Gov. Jim Doyle after former District Attorney Scott Horne was elected as a circuit judge.
Also seeking re-election are Crawford County District Attorney Tim Baxter, a Democrat; Jackson County District Attorney Gerald Fox, a Democrat; Monroe County District Attorney Dan Cary, a Republican; Trempealeau County District Attorney Jeri Marsolek, a Democrat; and Vernon County District Attorney Tim Gaskell, a Republican.
All state district attorneys are up this year for four-year terms.
The primary election is Sept. 9, with the general election Nov. 4.
