With warmer summer weather comes both construction and more people wanting to gather together, so it was little surprise that when the Hamilton Town Board met on June 10 for its monthly meeting, its agenda mainly concerned construction and approving licenses for gatherings.
The Hamilton Town Board accepted Al Niebuhur’s bid of $69,750 to work on widening and improving Charles Knutson Road, which in the past has received complaints from school bus drivers about the narrowness of the road.
The town of Hamilton has received grant money from the state’s Town Road Improvement Program that helps local governments improve deteriorating highways, town roads and city and village streets. The work on Knutson Road, according to Chairman Richard Schomburg, will be a three-year process; under TRIP, towns that receive the grant money have three years to use it all. Letters will be sent to residents living on Knutson Road to inform them of the construction as well.
In home construction, the town board approved Robert and Sally Dahlke’s request for a building permit for an addition to their home on Highway M.
They also approved Marty Severson’s request for variance on property on Old Highway 16.
The town board discussed with Rita Zindorf her request to extend Lehman Road. Town board members informed her that they will need to have some surveyors out before anything could move forward, also noting that that it would take private money for the extension to happen.
While construction took up the bulk of the agenda, the town board also approved liquor licenses for the following: Maple Grove, Neshonoc Campground operation, Uncle Chuck’s and La Crosse County Agricultural Society. They also approved Black Hawk Archers picnic request for July 6.
In other news, the board approved a request for early payment to the fire district of its levy, roughly $20,000.
