The annual West Salem Third-grade Marble Tournament was held in May with the championship round played on June 3.

All the students were involved in the tournament as each student played 12 to 15 games. The class champions competed on Tuesday, June 3 to determine the grand champion.

The room champions were: Maggie Lattos, Graham Walter, Lukas Bennett, Ashley Dahl, Gabe Sweeney and Gretchen Lichtie. The grand champion of the marble tournament was Dahl.

Physical education teachers Carol Hanson and Ryan Raufus introduced the techniques of shooting marbles in class and organized the tournament. The classroom teachers help out as they finish the tournament during classroom physical education and recess times.

The marble tournament is a longtime tradition, spanning more than 30 years that was started by James Zanter. All class champions and the grand champions were presented small trophies for their accomplishments. Good sportsmanship and fun were stressed throughout the tournament.
