Raymond W. Korn
CASHTON, Wis. — Raymond W. Korn, 79, of Cashton passed away on Friday, June 20, 2008, at his farm on Bohemian Ridge.
Raymond was born July 26, 1928, to Wenzel and Anna (Norlinsky) Korn, on the family farm in the town of Washington, La Crosse County. After graduating from Cashton High School, Ray served in the U.S. Army with the 5th Regimental Combat Battalion in the Korean War. He returned home and ran the family farm. Ray continued to live and work on the farm until his death.
On June 1, 1954, he was united in holy matrimony to Audrey Hammes at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Norwalk, Wis. Together they raised five children on the farm.
Ray was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Cashton Knights of Columbus and the Western Wisconsin Agricultural Museum. Ray loved the outdoors and had a keen interest in vintage equipment.
One of Ray’s favorite pastimes was to purchase and restore tractors and other antique machinery. When he was not outside, he enjoyed listening to good old time music.
Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey; two sons, Daniel (Debby) Korn and their son, Nicholas, all of Cashton, and William (Jane) Korn and their children Amelia, Joshua Lydia and Isabell Korn, all of Cashton; two daughters, Nancy (Donald B.) Korn-Smith of La Crescent, Minn., and Paula (Ken) Silha and their children, Sam and Ted, all of Coon Valley, Wis.; son-in-law, Randy Silha and his children, Weston, Wyatt, Walker and Wrenna of Woodbury, Minn.; and many other relatives and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia Lynn Silha; a daughter-in-law, Marlene (Brueggen) Korn; two grandchildren, Jacqueline and Janessa Korn; two sisters, Agnes Silha and Dorothy Korn; and a brother, Victor Korn.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church in Middle Ridge, Wis. The Rev. Francis Abuah-Quansah will officiate. Burial, with full military honors provided by Dickman-Spaeth VFW Post No. 8584, will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Monday, June 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church. Cashton Knights of Columbus will lead a rosary at 8 p.m. Torkelson Funeral Home of Cashton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Calvin K. Hoth
ROCKFORD, Ill. — Calvin K. Hoth, 80, of Rockford, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at UW-Madison Hospital.
He was born May 30, 1928, in West Salem to Fredric W. and Edna C. (Kinney) Hoth. Calvin graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering and attended UW-La Crosse. He married Gloria F. Claus Oct. 28, 1988, in Brodhead, Wis.
He was an engineer for Sundstrand for 15 years and was a corporate pilot for Eclipse for 21 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, West Salem.
He was also a member of Silver Wings, AOPA and Blackhawk Flying Club. Calvin was proud of logging more than 16,000 hours of flying.
Survived by his wife, Gloria Hoth of Rockford; two cousins; and three brothers-in-law.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, West Salem.

Patricia Rice Hoffman
SPARTA, Wis. — Patricia Rice Hoffman, 87, of Sparta died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, Sparta.
She was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Sparta to Zelotes S. and Vena (Hemstock) Rice. She grew up in Sparta and graduated from Sparta High School in 1939. Patricia attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and then returned home to work at Monroe County Publishers.
Patricia married Harold G. Hoffman on June 5, 1943, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta. After marriage, they resided all their married lives in Sparta. They owned and operated Harold’s Studio in downtown Sparta until 1951.
After her family had grown, she returned to the Monroe County Publishers until retiring in 1994.
Patricia was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for many years and served as banquet chairwoman. She often chaired the mother daughter banquet at St. Patrick’s. She was on the board of directors for the Sparta Housing Authority and the Sparta-Tomah Broadcasting Co. Patricia was a member of the Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Auxiliary and St. Clare Mission Clinic.
She is survived by two sons, Harold G. II (Barbara) Hoffman of West Salem, Wis., and William R. (Suzanne) Hoffman of Sparta; a daughter, Patricia H. (Ronald) Donnell of Cave Creek, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Marion T. (Mark) Fraley, Michael B. (Marie) Hoffman, Luke P. (Amanda) Hoffman, Matthew W. Hoffman, Natalie M. Hoffman and Shannon L. Hoffman; four great-grandchildren, James, Thomas, Josef and Madison; a brother, Zel S. (Babette) Rice of Sparta; a sister, Elizabeth (Allen) Ecker of New York, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Rice of Sparta; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold G. Hoffman on Feb. 1, 1981; an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth in 1962; a son, Thomas J. Hoffman on Jan. 22, 2003; a sister, Mary Ellen Marzolf; and two brothers, John D. Rice and James W. Rice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sparta, with the Rev. James Leary O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sparta.
