To end off their last year at West Salem Middle School, the eighth-graders had promotion ceremony where they were recognized for their accomplishments throughout the year and were given their “diplomas.”
“I will miss their energy, enthusiasm and smiles,” said Middle school Principal Dean Buchanan.
Besides their fun-loving principal, the students say they won’t miss much except for some teachers.
“I am looking forward to high school, but then again I’m not,” said eighth-grader Bridget Young. “I am (happy) to get out of middle school but then I’m not because of the upperclassmen.”
To get ready for the event, the eighth-graders practiced on Friday, May 30 in the Heider Centers, just hours before the actual event.
Members of student council including Witney Lambert, Tayler Jenks and Julia Schomberg, gave speeches about their elementary and middle school experiences and what they expect to gain from their high school experience.
