Here is a selection of brief news items from this week's paper edition. Farmer’s market now available
The West Salem farmer’s market will be held on Wednesdays from 3-6:30 p.m. now though Oct. 15. The market is held at the parking lot next to the bike shelter at the corner of Mill and Jefferson streets.
In addition to fresh produce, the farmer’s market features other items, such as plants and yard ornaments.
Vendors who take part in the West Salem farmer’s market must pay a $5 fee to display their goods each week, or there is a $35 season rate. Those interested in taking part can contact Denise Jones at 786-1426.
Mel-Min blood drive collects 57 units
The American Red Cross blood drive held at Melrose-Mindoro High School on May 30 collected 57 units.
There were 21 first-time donors. Champion donors of the day were Dale Norris and Waldemar Mades, who reached six gallons; Eugene Gamroth, who reached three gallons; and Doug Kirchner and Louise Anderson, who reached two gallons.
The next blood drive will be Monday, July 28.
Bangor rummage sale starts Friday
Bangor will hold its annual village-wide rummage sale June 13-14.
This year’s sale will run from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. the following day.
Maps can be picked up at Hansen’s IGA and at Lloyd’s Speedstop in Bangor. For further information, call Mae Nicolai at 486-4249.
Transplant support group to meet July 1
The Coulee Region Transplant Support Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, in the Lower Level Conference Room at the Onalaska Clinic, 191 Theater Road. The group will watch a video on the history of organ transplants.
Dubna group plans large rummage sale
More than 100 tables will be featured at this La Crosse Dubna Friendship Association rummage sale, to be held from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Franciscan Skemp garage at 11th and Ferry streets in La Crosse.
Donations of any good rummage also will be accepted and are tax deductible. People who need item pick-up should call 457-3355.
Volleyball camps set
Melrose-Mindoro High School will be conducting volleyball camps this summer for the 27th year.
The camps are open to girls entering grades six through nine next school year and will run Aug. 11-13. The camp will be conducted in mass for skill work but will be divided into sixth/seventh and eighth/ninth graders for games. There will be three straight days of half-day sessions from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost of the camp is $20. For more information, contact Deb Schaefer at 488-2201.
