The Green Bay Printmaking Studio of La Crosse recently sponsored a juried art show called the Visions of Youth Print Exhibition, which is currently on display at the La Crosse Public Display.
The show was open to all high school students in the La Crosse area and West Salem did very well as all six of the school’s entrants had their artwork accepted. The six from West Salem High School included, Kady Anthony, Wade Stokes, Ashley Puent, Kirby Strangstalien, Meggan Turner and Julia Rotenberger.
All the West Salem entries were deemed worthy of inclusion in the exhibit and two artists — Meggan Turner and Julia Rotenberger — received major awards.
Turner won the “Best in Show Award” and Rotenberger won the “Juror’s Choice Award.” Turner is a junior, while Rotenberger, a senior, is an exchange student who will soon be returning to Germany. Their awards were announced at a reception on May 27 at the library.
The Green Bay Studio hosted both the reception and the exhibition in order to recognize the talents and dedication of young artists in the community.
The idea was to spark enthusiasm and appreciation for printmaking as an artistic and expressive medium for youth.
The Visions of Youth Exhibition will remain on display until June 23. It can also be viewed online at
