Melrose-Mindoro blood drive May 30

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held Friday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Melrose-Mindoro High School.

Donors must be at least 17 years old and with at least 110 pounds.

Walk-ins are welcome. For an appointment, please call 488-3723 or 857-3930.

Union State Bank awards business scholarship

On May 15, Union State Bank president Steve Zeman announced that West Salem High School senior Leroy Brown has received the fourth annual Union State Bank Business Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Brown was selected from several candidates. The criteria was based on grade point average, academic determination, leadership abilities, school and community involvement and plans to pursue a business-related degree from a college or technical school.

Brown is enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and will major in accounting and business administration. He has served as student council president, received an athletic letter in football and a music letter in band, attended Badger Boys State and Freedom Foundation and received a community service award from Veterans Affairs for volunteering.
