On Monday May 5, the National Honor Society Induction was held at West Salem High School in the Heider Center. A few students were chosen by the high school faculty and staff to participate in the ceremony.
“These students were selected based on the presentation of their student portfolio,” said NHS advisor Eric Wiggins.
Other requirements include having a minimum grade point average of 9.0; preparing a portfolio that includes letters of recommendation; and documenting five hours of community service.
During the ceremony, NHS’s expectations are explained to the inductees, they take a pledge of membership and receive a certificate and cords to wear at graduation.
Wiggins explained to the students being welcomed into the society that being inducted “is not the culmination of their achievement, but rather the beginning of their active membership.” He went on to say that if they intend to stay a member of NHS, they will be held to high standards.
Wiggins, who spoke at the ceremony, themed his speech as “upholding purposes of National Honor Society.”
Others who spoke at the induction were NHS president Kelsey Pischke, vice president Leigha Blank, treasurer Mary Kurisch and secretary Brianna Indahl.
The students who have kept up their academic performance are seniors Rae Davis, Evan Forsberg, Megan Hussey, Matthew Huston, Molly Jenson, Emily Klos, Rachel Perry, Katie Reischl, David Schomberg and Jenna Wisch; and juniors Jacob Bina, Leigha Blank, Lori Groth, Christopher Hutson, Briana Indahl, Anna Isler, Mary Kurisch, Kirsten Langrehr, Molly Metcalf, Sarah Miller, Kelsey Pischke, Dan Schneider and Kristin Stockheimer.
